En raison principalement d'un effectif militaire estimé à 920 000 hommes et 11 700 blindés. L'Egypte est le seul pays africain qui se place dans le top 10 mondial des puissances militaires, en arrivant à la 9ème place de ce classement 2020 du Global Fire Power. Le Nigeria avec un score de 0,6485 occupe la 4ème place, en raison de l'effectif militaire (120 000), et son nombre de véhicules blindés (1789).
